Arbore Monastery
A painted church of elegant proportions and one of Bukovina’s essential heritage stops.
Arbore is a stop for days when you want more than a quick tick on a list. The painted façades, the church’s proportions, and the quiet village around it reward an unhurried visit.
Pair it with a day around Solca and Rădăuți, leaving time for details. The exterior colours change with the light, while the interior deserves the same quiet attention as any painted church.
The church was built in 1503 by Luca Arbore and is one of the eight Churches of Moldavia included on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
The Church of the Beheading of Saint John the Baptist in Arbore was built in 1503 and belongs to the UNESCO “Churches of Moldavia” ensemble. Its exterior painting and green colour field are among its defining visual features.
