Slătioara Ancient Forest
An ancient protected forest where beech, spruce, and limestone create a genuine wild-forest experience.
At Slătioara, the forest is not the backdrop to an attraction; it is the attraction itself. Old trunks, clearings, and quiet completely change the pace of a day around Rarău.
Choose paths and access points that match your ability, and do not turn the reserve into a stage for improvised adventures. A thermos, good footwear, and an unhurried day are more useful than a long checklist.
The Slătioara Ancient Forest preserves one of Romania’s most important primary forests and is part of Bukovina’s protected natural heritage.
The reserve is known for its old trees and rare flora associated with natural forests, including lady’s slipper orchid and yew. Visitors should follow conservation rules and local management guidance.
